My Work with Schools
I help schools create systems, structures, and policies that promote learning and well-being of both students and teachers.
Services for School Leaders
Consultation
Individualized support for members of the leadership team looking to address a specific problem across classrooms, or with multiple teachers, troubleshoot issues along the way, overcome obstacles, and learn whatever is required to do the same.
For eg.,
"I’d like teachers in the Science and Math departments to take shared ownership of students’ literacy struggles along with the English teachers. They seem to think it’s not their job. Or, they want to engage but don’t have the requisite knowledge and skills. What data should I collect? How should I support the teachers? What must I track and how frequently to ensure the long-term success of this project?"
"I’d like to create structures to support 8th-grade students who are struggling academically. The current teacher workload and student timetable don’t allow for any extra time or effort. Where should I begin?"
"I’d like to take steps to make my school inclusive for students with learning disabilities. What should I know to begin?"
Review + Feedback
Review of work already done (or begun) towards a goal; support to troubleshoot problems along the way; resources and direction.
For eg.,
"Here are the new pieces of data I plan to collect to track students’ literacy growth in the English department. But, this plan is very resource-intensive. Are there ways to do this in lesser time?"
"Here's my Grade Level Team’s plan to address bullying in 7th grade. What are we missing? What else should we consider?"
Knowledge Briefs
Brief sessions that respect the time constraints of leaders and provide overviews of key knowledge that members of the leadership team need to know to effectively support and manage teachers. The details required for effective on-ground execution are covered in professional development sessions for teachers.
For eg.,
Overview of learning difficulties and disabilities
Overview of the 3 major ways children are taught to read
pros and cons of each
the role of profit-seeking companies in influencing reading pedagogy and outcomes
red flags a school leader should be aware of
